I watched it with no expectations it was just a movie that got put in when I was over at someone's house. But there's definitely a lot of squandered potential there. Ultimately I like the movie and think it gets way too much hate. That's exactly how I wound expect a teleport to fight not that one-and-done stuff that most movies do with it. The Davy/Griffon fight as they're continually teleporting was fantastic.Davy dropping SLJ in the Grand Canyon then telling him he could have left him with the sharks was great. The bank robbery is right out of the book and it's perfect, believable, and says about the character. That said, they NAILED a few great scenes: These are all things the movie touched on but I just never feel like I got enough of any of them.

If they wanted to make the story a character drama like the book, they should have done away with the Paladins altogether and delved fully into Davy learning to use this new power, feeling lonely/powerful, and trying to find a way to use for more than immediate benefit. More focus on finding the mother throughout, maybe? Possibly have Millie kidnapped earlier? There's really nothing to root for in that movie outside of 'I hope they don't die'.

Ultimately I would have liked them to have given the movie a tighter focus on some goal. Seriously, where's the movie about that guy!? It doesn't help that Griffon shows up and completely upstages the leads in every way. I still really like it from there on out, but much like the book the plot just kind of wanders around for a bit edging on cool ideas but never jumping in fully. My problem with it is that it's a really compelling movie for about 10 minutes.
